Pow! Smash! Oof! Crack! These were the sounds I heard while I kept my eyes shut. I had expected to get the brunt of a wrench on my head but instead I was spared by...by who? I opened my eyes. The thugs were lying by me, knocked unconscious.  I spotted a muscular figure with pointy tips on the sides of his head walking away.  I followed him down the alley. He had a cape that dragged on the ground.  

Thank you whoever you are, I said. He stopped and turned his body, barely his neck.  He had on a mask that covered his entire face except his mouth.  I couldn't see his eyes. You're okay, he said. He had a dry, gravely voice like Uncle Morris when he came down for breakfast.

Who are you? I asked. He continued walking but soon stopped, looked down for a moment and then turned back towards me.  Catch, he said.  He threw something small at me. I couldn't see it in the dark and it hit me on the shoulder. It was a keychain. Next time, press the button and shine it high up on a building. 

I picked it up and found the button--whoa!--it was a picture of a bat on a yellow background. On the side of the flashlight read the word Batman.  

Is this you? I yelled out. Are you Batman?  But he was already gone.
